The Power and Beauty In Creative Collaboration
Well hello world! Kemi Writes here!
“We felt seen by each other in the context of our most intimate stories of erotic power. The process of creating and sharing South Asian erotic artwork alongside one another other helped us feel more powerful in our bodies, hearts, minds, and in our activism to change the world” (Gupta, 31)
I really enjoyed reading the poetry and prose as well as looking at the paintings from the South Asian women reclaiming their power from their unique experiences. I found each and every one of them inspiring and powerful. I think phenomenology itself and describing the “lived experience” has really been inspiring to me overall. I didn’t really know how powerful and healing it can be for me and people in general, until this class.
Doing the lived experience of guilt project started off a bit difficult for me because when we had to describe an experience of guilt, it felt like I was feeling that guilt all over again. It felt overwhelming to feel it again and even talk about it in class after writing about it with ourselves, but as we have been collaborating together and coming up with our individual themes then group themes, I have found the experience of our creative collaboration to be helpful in accepting guilt and seeing its impact in a new lens. I also feel like it is helping us build a better connection with guilt and even helping the collective do the same as well. I truly see the beauty in the creative collaboration itself as well. I have been enjoying the creative process and I am excited to see the end result.
That’s all for now!
XOXO,
